A natural process of our existence as people is that we get older over a length of time. When humans get older, they usually become less able to take care of themselves and their needs. If you have older parents who cannot live on their own any longer, then it is time to look into the elder care options that are available to them.
There are several varied options for elder care. One choice is assisted living facilities. Assisted living enables seniors the ability to live in their own apartment, but also they have the ability to ask for help as needed from the employees. For example, if an aged person ingests medication on a daily basis, the staff members at the facility can assist with ensuring that the individual follows to their medication regimen. In addition, there are opportunities for the elderly residents to participate all kinds of activities such as games, exercise classes and other forms of enjoyable leisure activities. Many times these facilities also include a library that the elderly can utilize to borrow books of interest to them. Meal times also tend to be more simple because of the community eating area where the elderly residents can eat during mealtimes, so they will not have to prepare meals. These type of living arrangements can incur expenses anywhere from $1500 $6000 per month, or even more.
Another choice for elder care is for elder home care. This type of care involves a home like setting where several elderly people live with each other under the care and supervision of a caregiver who lives in the home with them. These particular type of homes are licensed and regulated by the state in which they are situated. These type of residences will give the elderly residents with their basic care needs as well as any special needs such as assistance with medications, bathing, grooming, eating or dressing. There are even some homes that give care for people with more complex needs such as Alzhiemers. The expense of living in one of these type of homes is somewhere between $1400 $6100 per month.
Last, but not least, people can live in a long term care skilled nursing facility, otherwise known as a nursing or convalescent home. These types of living situations are appropriate for those elderly individuals that are in need of twenty four hour care. These type of facilities employ nurses, different types of therapists, dietitians and others who can assist in caring for the elderly. The costs of living in a long term care skilled nursing facility are usually between four thousand and nine thousand dollars, or more each month.
When searching for a elder care setting, it is important that you consider the amount of money that is available to pay for the services. Without a doubt, out of the three options above, the long term care skilled nursing facility is the most expensive. In addition, you will want to look at what you are getting for the money. Are there enough amentities? What about the employees? Do they seem caring and attentive to resident`s needs? Choose carefully.
